Delica Pennant Necklace

1. Cut a five foot length of C-Lon size D beading thread. String fourteen Miyuki 8/0 Delica beads (DBL) in color A.

2. Pass back through the second to last DBL on the needle end.

3. Pull thread to secure so that the beads lay side by side. This begins ladder stitch.

4. Pass back through next DBL to continue ladder stitch.

5. Pull thread to secure.

6. Continue until all fourteen DBL beads are ladder stitched together.

7. Pass down through the DBL to the right and back up through the DBL to the left to reinforce. This completes row 1.

8. String one DBL in color A and one DBL in color B.

9. Moving from left to right, pass under the thread bridge connecting the second and third DBL beads in row 1. This begins brick stitch.

10. Turn and pass up through the second DBL in row 2.

11. Turn to the left and pass down through the first DBL in row 2. Pass under the thread bridge connecting the first and second beads in row 1.

12. Pass up through the first DBL in row 2.

13. Pass down through the second DBL in row 2 and under the thread bridge connecting the second and third DBL beads in row 1. Pass up through the second DBL in row 2.

14. String one DBL in color B.

15. Pass under the thread bridge connecting the third and fourth DBL beads in row 1. Pass up through the third DBL in row 2.

16. Continue in brick stitch until there are twelve DBL beads in row 2 (one in color A and 11 in color B).

17. Brick stitch one DBL in color A to complete row 2.

18. String two DBL beads in color A. Moving from right to left, pass under the thread bridge connecting the second and third DBL beads in row 2. Turn and pass up through the second DBL in row 3.

19. Turn right and pass down through the first DBL in row 3. Pass under the thread bridge connecting the first and second beads in row 2 and continue up through the first DBL in row 3. Pass down through the second DBL in row 3 and under the corresponding thread bridge. Continue up through the second DBL in row 3.

20. Brick stitch one DBL in color B.

21. Complete row 3 by adding the following beads using brick stitch: six DBL beads in color A, one DBL in color B, and two DBL beads in color A.

22. Complete row 4 by adding the following DBL beads using brick stitch: A, A, B, A, B, B, B, A, B, A, A.

23. String two DBL beads in color A. Moving from right to left pass under the thread bridge connecting the first and second DBL beads in row 4.

24. Pass up through the second DBL in row 5.

25. Turn and pass down through the DBL to the right in row 5.

26. String one DBL in color A. Pass down through the DBL to the left and pull to secure.

27. Pass up through the newly added DBL to the right.

28. String one DBL in color A and pass up through the DBL to the left.

29. Pass down through the DBL to the right and up through the DBL to the left. Moving from right to left, pass down then up through the next two DBL beads.

30. Brick stitch one DBL in color A.

31. Continue in brick stitch, adding the following DBL beads: B, A, B, B, A, B, A, A.

32. Use ladder stitch to add one DBL in color A.

33. Continue ladder stitch to add a second DBL in color A.

34. Repeat step 32 to add a third DBL in color A. Continue up through the DBL to the right.

35. Turn right and follow the thread path down through rows 5, 4, and 3.

36. Turn left and follow the thread path back up to row 5, exiting the third DBL from left.

37. Pass down through the DBL to the left and up through the last DBL in row 5.

38. Continue in brick stitch, following the bead pattern as shown. Complete the final row with two DBL beads in color A (row 19).

39. Follow the diagrammed thread path until the thread is exiting the right side of row 1.

40. Cut two nine inch pieces of 3x4mm flat cable chain.

41. Rotate the beadwork so that row 1 is at the top. Using the thread tail at the corner of row 1 pass through the bottom link of chain.

42. Pass back down through the corner DBL in row 1. Continue through rows 2-5 following the diagrammed thread path.

43. Turn left and pass up through rows 5-1 following the diagrammed thread path.

44. Pass through the chain again and repeat steps 42 and 43 to reinforce.

45. Repeat steps 41-44 to attach the second piece of chain to the other side of row 1.
