Royal Rivoli Earrings

1. Cut approximately five feet of Miyuki nylon beading thread. String one Miyuki 15/0 seed bead and one Miyuki 6mm Bugle bead (BGL2). Repeat until there are four of each bead.

2. Pass back through all of the beads to form a loop.

3. Continue through an additional pair of beads to secure the loop, exting a BGL2 bead.

4. String one BGL2. Pass down through the BGL2 on the left and pull thread to secure. The BGL2 beads will lay side by side, this begins ladder stitch.

5. Pass up through the BGL2 on the right.

6. String one BGL2 and pass up through the BGL2 on the left. Continue down through the BGL2 just added.

7. Add a BGL2 by repeating steps 4 and 5.

8. String the final BGL2 and pass up through the BGL2 on the left. There should be five BGL2 beads in the completed ladder stitched section.

9. Follow the thread path back down the ladder stitched section, exiting the BGL2 bead at the base.

10. Moving clockwise, pass through the next 15/0 and BGL2 beads.

11. Repeat steps 4-9 to create a second ladder stitched section.

12. Continue in this way until there are four ladder stitched sections, each with five BGL2 beads. The thread should be exiting the BGL2 bead at the base of this final ladder stitched section (row 1).

13. Turn and pass back through the second BGL2 in this section (row 2).

14. String three 15/0 beads and pass through the BGL2 in row 2 of the next section.

15. Continue in this way until three 15/0 beads have been added between each BGL2 in row 2. Pull tight to secure, the beads will begin to form a basketlike shape.

16. Turn and pass through the third BGL2 in this section (row 3).

17. String five 15/0 beads and pass through the BGL2 in row 3 of the next section.

18. Continue in this way until five 15/0 beads have been added between each BGL2 in row 3.

19. Turn and pass through the fourth BGL2 in this section (row 4).

20. String two 15/0 beads, one 3mm Swarovski crystal bicone, and two 15/0 beads. Pass through the BGL2 in row 4 of the next section.

21. Continue in this way until 15/0 and crystal beads have been added between each BGL2 in row 4.

22. Set the 14mm Swarovski crystal rivoli into the center of the beadwork. The rivoli should nestle into the surrounding beads as if in a basket.

23. Turn and pass back through the fifth BGL2 in this section (row 5).

24. String four 15/0 beads and pass through the BGL2 in row 5 of the next section.

25. Pull thread to secure. The BGL2 beads in row 5 will start to fold over the top edge of the rivoli.

26. Continue in this way until four 15/0 beads have been added between each BGL2 in row 5.

27. Pass back through all of the beads in row 5 to reinforce. The rivoli should now be securely held in place.

28. Turn and pass back into the fourth BGL2 in this section. Continue through two 15/0 beads and one 3mm crystal.

29. String seven 15/0 beads.

30. Pass back through the 3mm crystal to form a loop. Continue through all the beads in the loop again to reinforce.

31. Follow the thread path along row 4 to secure the thread.

32. Looking at the other side of the earring you will see the point on the back of the rivoli. This will be centered in the middle of your beadwork. Sew in any thread tails and trim.

33. Attach an earwire to the beaded loop at the top of the earring.
