True to its name, Lava stone is made when magma (molten rock from deep underground) cools into a pitted and porous stone. It is made of many types of crystals, gasses, and liquids. Lava stone has a long history in the world of jewelry and beads. Most notably, it was used in the Victorian Era to carve cameos into, creating one of the era's most distinctive motifs. These beads are rounded and textured by the natural pitting in the stone itself, and measure at 6mm.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
