Picture jasper is a variety of quartz that forms intricate and beautiful bands from silicate deposits or petrified earth, creating remarkable designs. The layers of brown, blue, black, tan, or ivory create a mottled look that lends to the stone's name. The word 'jasper' derives from the Greek word 'iaspis', which means 'spotted stone'. These semi-precious stones were often used to make vases and jewelry in the past, as far back as ancient Egypt. This strand features smooth, round beads at 6mm in size.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
