Cape amethyst beads are formed by layering amethyst with milky quartz to form beautiful patterns in the stones. They also lighten the color of purple, ranging from a purple-tinged white to lavender. Amethyst itself is a variety of quartz crystals that are violet in color. The stones are formed in high heat, often occuring in geodes formed in volcanic rocks. The small chips of this stone vary in width and height, but are smoothed to bring out the beautiful colors.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
