Like rhodochrosite, rhodonite gets its name from the Greek “rhodos” meaning “rosy”, and its pinkish hue is also due to the presence of manganese. Its chemical composition is significantly different from rhodochrosite however, and it is noticably harder and more durable. The presence of black manganese oxides in the stone give it a distinctive mottled black and pink coloration. Rhodonite is the official stone of the state of Massachusetts. These smooth, round beads measure 6mm, and are a striking combination of shades of pink with black accents.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
