Basic Finishing Techniques

Tuesday February 7th or Tuesday June 27th

Basic Finishing Class Example

With an emphasis on technique, this class is perfect for anyone looking for an introduction to beading. You will learn to finish projects using beading wire, memory wire, elastic and leather cord. In this class you will complete two bracelets and one necklace.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 adult 2x memory wire bracelet
  • 1 ft of .8mm elastic cord
  • 1 ft of C-flex beading wire
  • 2 - 3 ft of leather cord
  • 3 crimp beads
  • 2 coils ends
  • 1 clasp
  • 1 tube of size 6/0 seed beads or shape beads (for color variety choose a mix)
  • 1 charm with jump ring
  • 20 - 30 accent beads of your choice
  • 1 headpin (optional)

Basic Earrings

Basic Earrings Class Example

$25.00 class cost, materials are included.

This is a great class for the beginning beader. Learn to make basic earrings, linked earrings and wire wrapped earrings. A small selection of beads as well as base metal findings are included in the class fee. If you have metal sensitivity you may want to purchase your own earwires ahead of time. You are also welcome to purchase or bring your own beads to work with.

This project utilizes a combination of stringing and weaving techniques to achieve a beautiful looped pattern. Choose from either a necklace or bracelet project for this class.

  • 1 tube of Miyuki 11/0 seed beads
  • 18 6mm Swarovski crystal bicone beads
  • 14 4mm Swarovski crystal round beads
  • 24 4mm Firepolish beads
  • 5 feet of C-Flex beading wire (.015)
  • 6 2x2mm crimps
  • 6 4mm crimp covers
  • 3-strand clasp

Necklace:

  • 1 tube of Miyuki 11/0 seed beads
  • 36-42 6mm Swarovski crystal bicone beads

Introducing our new favorite bead to peyote stitch: Berry beads! Berry beads are peanut shaped beads that when stitched nestle together for a sophisticated bracelet. This is a perfect class for those unfamiliar with peyote stitch or anyone new to beading projects.

  • 4 tubes of Berry beads (BB) - two tubes of each color recommended
  • C-Lon Thread size D
  • 1 package of short beading needles
  • 1 5-strand clasp

Learn how to create this popular bracelet using simple materials. The leather wrap bracelet can be made with a variety of beads in endless color combinations.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 3.5 ft. of 1.5mm leather cord
  • 1 spool of Miyuki nylon thread (MNT)
  • 1 package of short beading needles
  • 100 4mm firepolish beads (2 strands)
  • 1 button (or large bead) for closure

Magatama Kumihimo Necklace

Kumihimo Necklace with Magatamas Class Example

Our kumihimo necklace class mixes seed beads and magatamas for eye-catching texture. Kumihimo is a form of braiding that originated in Japan and has been in use for hundreds of years. This is a perfect project for beginners or experienced beaders.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 tube of 8/0 seed beads
  • 2 tubes of Magatamas (MA4)
  • 1 Big Eye needle
  • 1 spool of C-Lon bead cord (CLC)
  • 1 Kumihimo foam disk
  • 1 pkg. small EZ Bob Bobbins
  • 2 cones and 1 clasp set
  • 1 ft. of chain
  • 8 inches of 22ga. wire
  • 2 6mm beads

Long Magatama Spiral Rope

This class is an introduction to spiral stitch, an easy beginner bead weaving project. Use long magatama beads to add an extra level of interest to this classic technique.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 3 tubes of Miyuki Long Magatamas (LMA)
  • 1 tube of Miyuki 11/0 seed beads
  • 1 tube of Miyuki 8/0 seed beads
  • 1 spool of C-Lon Micro cord (CLMC)
  • 1 big eye needle (2.25")
  • 6 inches of 22ga. soft wire
  • 2 cone ends
  • 1 clasp set

Optional materials:

  • 1 pendant
  • 3 - 6 inches of decorative chain

Knotting with Silk

Tuesday March 28th or August 15th

Silk Knotting Class Example

Learn to knot between pearls or semiprecious beads. Re-string the pearls you already have, or begin a new project. This technique can also be used to create spaces between your beads, making a "floating bead" necklace.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 strand of pearls or semiprecious beads
  • 1 card of Griffin silk (ask for help with size)
  • 2 bead tips
  • 1 clasp set
  • Fine tip knotting tweezer

The "Tree of Life" is a universally found motif symbolizing interconnection of life forms, knowledge and consciousness. In this class you will learn to craft a small pendant out of wire and beads in the shape of the Tree of Life.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 package of 16 ga. wire
  • 1 package of 24 ga. wire
  • 1 tube of Miyuki Drop beads or Magatama beads (DP or MA4)
  • Necklace cord or chain (optional)

Using medium Miyuki Delica beads you will create these fun and trendy earrings. In this class you will master the basics of brick stitch around a hoop.

  • 1 - 3 colors of medium Delicas (DBM)
  • 2 33mm hammered hoops
  • 2 earwires
  • 1 spool of Miyuki nylon thread (MNT)
  • 1 package of thin beading needles

Wire crochet is a wonderful technique to add to your beading repertoire! With a simple single chain crochet stitch you will create a beautiful braided necklace.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 2 tubes of Miyuki Magatama beads (MA4)
  • 30 4mm Swarovski crystal round beads
  • 1 package of 28ga. soft wire
  • 1 small cone set or two 6mm beads
  • 1 foot of chain
  • 1 clasp set
  • 1 steel crochet hook size 2.55mm (US0) or 2.25 (US1)

Learn the art of knotting with this 2-in-1 project. This beautiful macrame design can be worn as a necklace or a wrap bracelet, no stitching required!

  • 62 - 70 6mm round beads
  • 1 spool of regular weight C-Lon (CLC)
  • 1 charm
  • 1 lobster claw clasp
  • 2 4mm jump rings
  • 1 8mm jump ring
  • 2 bead tips

This introduction to bead embroidery will teach you basic techniques for beading on fabric. In this class you will create an embroidered pendant using a center piece, seed beads and Ultrasuede.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 cabochon or flat bead (15-30mm in size recommended)
  • 1-3 tubes of 11/0 Miyuki seed beads
  • 1 strand of 2mm or 3mm Firepolish beads
  • 1 piece of Ultrasuede or 1 package of laser cut shapes
  • 1 glue-on bail
  • 1 tube of E-6000 glue
  • 1 spool of C-Lon size D or Miyuki beading thread
  • 1 package of short beading needles

Russian spiral stitch creates a flexible hollow beaded rope. Stitch up a long necklace to showcase a special pendant or feature your beadwork centered between some leather cording or chain.

  • 3 tubes of Miyuki 8/0 seed beads (please select three different colors)
  • 1 spool of Miyuki nylon thread (MNT)
  • 1 package of short beading needles
  • 6 inches of 22ga. soft wire

  • 2 feet of 1.2mm leather

Stamped Necklace

Stamped Necklace Class Example

Metal stamping is the perfect technique to make special and personalized gifts. Imprint phrases, birthday or anniversary dates, names or initials to customize your piece. Choose from a full assortment of alphabet and numeral stamps as well as some fun accent design stamps. Finally, put it all together and learn the basics of wrapped loops and jump rings as you complete the necklace.

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 2-3 metal blanks
  • 12 - 15 accent beads
  • 1.5 - 2 feet of chain
  • 1 spool of 22ga. wire
  • 3 - 4 headpins (optional)
  • 12 6mm jump rings

Materials to be purchased before the class:

  • 1 package of 16 ga. wire
  • 1 package of 24 ga. wire
  • 10-20 assorted beads between 4-8mm

To reserve a space in a class you must pay the $25.00 class fee before the class time. If you cannot attend a class please cancel 24 hours in advance and we will be happy to give you a credit for another class or merchandise.

Please note that all basic techniques such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. are still taught free of charge any time during our regular store hours. We reserve the right to cancel a class if our minimum number of three students is not met.
