This strand of matte crystal points is made of plain quartz crystals, a hard mineral formed in extreme heat. It can often be found near volcanic activity or in heat vents for geysers. In Ancient Greece this stone was called 'krustallos', meaning 'icy cold', for its similarities to ice cubes in color. Ranging from clear to opaque, these stones are various shades of white and cream. Their holes are drilled through the narrow side to allow the points to hang down.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
