We supply Japanese seed beads in bulk to qualified wholesale customers only. Since 1995 we have enjoyed Miyuki's commitment to quality and the beautiful new seed beads that they introduce each year. Miyuki makes seed beads in a wide variety of sizes - 2/0, 5/0, 6/0, 8/0, 11/0, and 15/0. Japanese seed beads are renowned for their precise shape and uniformity. Unlike Delica beads they are rounded and will not create a flat surface when woven. Seed beads are preferred for beaded lace, texture and ornamentation, stringing, and other uses where their rounded edges will fit together better on a curve than the straight edges of a cylinder bead.
Seed beads are made in many parts of the world, including China, India and Japan. Japanese seed beads are by far the most uniform in size and shape, and are the most expensive to manufacture. Price is determined by the labor and materials involved in making each color, and can range from a transparent or opaque plain glass to a seed bead with a 24k gold plating. Japanese seed beads are recommended for any use that requires the beads to fit together closely when weaving with or without a loom.
Miyuki is the oldest of the three Japanese seed bead manufacturers. Toho and Matsuno are the other major seed bead manufacturers in Japan. Each company has their own line of colors and the seed bead sizes and shapes are known to vary between each company.
Miyuki seed beads are also available in a hexagonal cut version, with six faceted sides cut into the outside of the bead. Cut seed beads are available in sizes 15/0, 11/0 and 8/0 but in a smaller range of colors than their standard counterparts.
